sounds kinda lame.

actually, it sounds awful. not only is day one too short, but day two seems too long.
let's see how it turns out.

Deal Involving Draft Picks

Update:  The teams also switched 6th round picks... another advantage for the Chiefs.

Jared Allen is now a Viking.

The Chiefs get picks #17, 73 & 82... giving them 6 of the first 100 picks.

"The NFL announced several revisions to its annual college draft to streamline the selection process for clubs and fans.
Beginning with this year's draft, only Rounds 1 and 2 will take place on Saturday (April 26), the first day of the draft. Previously, the first three rounds of the draft were conducted on Saturday.
The time allocated for each club to make its selection in Rounds 1 and 2 also has been changed.
Instead of 15 minutes for each pick in Round 1, clubs will now be allowed 10 minutes. In Round 2, the selection time has been shortened to seven minutes from 10 minutes.
The draft also will begin later on Saturday - at Noon Pacific rather than at 9:00 a.m.
Round 3 will be moved to Sunday and remain at five minutes per selection. Rounds 3 through 7 will be conducted on Sunday, with each selection allocated at five minutes.
The draft on Sunday now will begin at 7:00 a.m. Pacific rather than 8:00 a.m."

i think people like me got the raw deal in this one.
the change to 10 and 7 minutes we saw coming, and is probably a good move, but i really dislike postponing the third round until the second day.
it almost feels immoral.
three rounds after one day gives fans a lot to think about (whether they are good thoughts or bad depends on your GM). two rounds seems like a waste of a saturday.

a quick Raiders note:

if Chad Johnson does, in fact, want to come to Oakland, that would take care of one of the pressing needs on the team.

and if they learned anything from watching the Giants yesterday, investing in the defensive line pays off.
so the 1st round pick should be DT Sedrick Ellis (whose stock rose at the Senior Bowl) or Glenn Dorsey (whose stock is falling).
although Howie's son seems destined to be a raider.

other needs: Safety, speed WR, OL

day one.

reflections, anyone?

how did your teams do?
any favorite college kids make it to your team?

the raiders drafted decently, obviously focussing on offense.
jamarcus russell, zach miller (TE-asu), mario henderson (OT-florida state), and johnnie lee higgins (WR-utep)
with one defensive selection.
quentin moses (DE-georgia)

interesting development of the day: the acquisition of QB Josh McCown and WR Mike Williams of the Lions. all for a 4th round pick.
Coach Kiffin worked with Williams at USC, and thinks he can get him to play well, hopefully finally reach his potential.
this deal almost definitely indicates that randy moss will be dealt away.

so it's good to see a former USC icon (mike williams) on my team. both dwayne jarrett and steve smith slipped into the mid-late second round. i'm not sure i like the NYG system that smith fell into, but jarrett should have a chance to make an impact in Carolina.
center ryan kalil also landed in Carolina.

LOLZ

Okay two things. A) I so wanted the Jets to pick Greg Olson for the fan reaction to another Jets TE selection. B) Brady Quinn has joined Dick Cheney in the undisclosed location bunker.

Scary thought. If Quinn falls to the Lions in the second round, will Matt Millen be considered a genius or lucky as hell?
